I have done two one-day filmmaking workshops with Paul Cotrulia (beginners and intermediate).
As a novice filmmaker, I loved how Paul put us at ease during the introductions, and did his utmost to find out what we wanted to do as creatives, and then signpost, based on his own in-depth experience as a filmmaker. Somehow, writers, film students and complete beginners on the course were able to get something out of he session! The workshop was a good mix of theory and practical, touching on: framing shots, continuity of action, lighting and use of cameras/sound. Best of all, Paul worked beyond the course to edit out work to provide us with a finished product. – Davina
The workshop was incredibly enriching experience. Paul’s teaching style made complex filmmaking concepts easy to grasp, and I really appreciated how he encouraged creativity while provided practical, hands-on guidance. I took a Filmmaking for Beginners course with Paul and learned a huge amount in the space of six hours. Paul’s passion for film is obvious, and he took us through technical details of shots and set-ups, as well as answering our questions about roles in the wider film industry. We had the chance to make and edit a short film under his guidance and I really valued the practical experience. I’d certainly take another class of Paul’s. – Annie
